What is WCS?

“When Children Succeed”, is a program launched in 2018 in New Brunswick aimed at helping K-2 students overcome poverty-related learning barriers. The project provides Seaside Park with three teachers that provide intensive intervention support, focusing on closing the education achievement gap by Grade 3. The program has shown promising results, with standardized tests by Grade 7 showing a 106% increase in writing and a 121% increase in reading from 2006 to 2011. Additionally, the high school graduation rate for neighbourhood students has risen from 41% in 2011 to 75% in 2017. The project is a collaborative effort between the Anglophone South School District and the Government of New Brunswick, supported by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Living Saint John Social Innovation Fund. https://www.bcapi.ca/when-children-succeed-project
